Overhead cable, fully known as overhead insulated cable, is an overhead wire equipped with insulation and protective sheath, a new way of power transmission between the overhead wire and underground cable.
Overhead cables are single-core and can be divided into hard aluminum wire structure, hard drawn copper wire structure, aluminum alloy wire structure, steel core or aluminum alloy core support structure, and self-supporting three-core stripline structure according to their structures.
It has the main features of high reliability of power supply, good safety of power supply, convenient erection and maintenance, and reasonable economy.
There are various types of overhead cables.
Bare conductors (AAC, AAAC, ACSR) can be used as overhead power lines, transmission lines, and distribution lines.
The different conductor materials between them suitably possess different span lengths and the ability to withstand breaking strength.
All aluminum conductors consist of one or more bundles of aluminum wire, depending on the specific application environment of the product.
Due to the natural corrosion resistance of all-aluminum construction, it is also popular in coastal areas.
AAC conductor is most commonly used in urban areas where support is frequent and spans are short.
It is also used in coastal areas where salt in the air can cause corrosion, due to the excellent corrosion resistance of aluminum, and is specified for OHL electrification in the railroad industry.
AAAC conductor is often specified where high mechanical resistance and reduced sag characteristics are required.
It is mainly used as overhead transmission cables and primary and secondary distribution cables.
It is suitable for laying in basins, rivers, and ravines with special geographical properties.
Steel-core aluminum stranded cable ACSR conductors are widely used for long-distance power transmission because they are ideal for long-distance overhead line cables.
They are also used as conveyor belts to support overhead cables.
The aluminum alloy conductor overhead power line of ZMS has a series of advantages such as strong load and overload capacity, good heat resistance, large transmission capacity, and high tensile strength.
At the same time, it can also greatly reduce the investment in line construction, effectively improve the urban environment, and is widely used in the transformation of urban and rural power grids.
AAC — (All Aluminum Conductor)
All aluminum conductors are made up of one or more strands of aluminum wire.
AAC conductor is also known as aluminum stranded wire.
It is made from electrolytically refined aluminum with a minimum purity of 99.7%.
These conductors are used in low, medium, and high voltage overhead lines.
AAC cables are widely used in urban areas, where spans are usually short but conductivity requirements are high.
The excellent corrosion resistance of aluminum makes AAC the conductor of choice for coastal areas.
Conductor: Hard drawn aluminum conductor as per EN 60889 Type AL1 according to BS 215.
Standard: ASTM — B 230, ASTM — B 231, TS IEC 1089, DIN48201, BS 215.
Ambient temperature: -5oC -50oC
Density 20oC: 2.703 kg/dm
Temperature coefficient 20°C: 0.00403 (°C)
Coefficient of resistance 20°C: 0.028264
Linear expansion coefficient linear rate of change: 23 x10-6 (°C)
AAAC — (All Aluminum Alloy Conductor)
AAAC cables consist of aluminum alloy wires which are concentrically stranded.
This product is a magnesium-silicon-type aluminum alloy treated according to the applicable international standards, and its electrical and mechanical properties are within the recommended values of the relevant standards.
We can also supply conductors in all other recognized sizes.
Due to their lighter weight, alloy conductors can sometimes be used in place of the more traditional ACSR.
And they have lower ice-breaking loads than the latter, which can be more beneficial for their use when ice and wind loads are low.
Compared to AAC and ACSR, AAAC has better strength and weight, electrical properties, vertical tensile properties, and better corrosion resistance.
These features have made AAAC more widely recognized and preferred in power distribution and medium and high voltage transmission lines.
AAAC conductor size can be customized according to the application of the cable conductor and customer requirements.
Conductors: AAAC conductors are made of a highly conductive aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloy (minimum 53% IACS).
It contains magnesium (0.6-0.9%) and silicon (0.5-0.9%), which gives it better mechanical properties after treatment. AAAC conductors are made of aluminum alloy 6201.
Standards: ASTM - b 230, ASTM - b 231, ts IEC 1089, din48201, bs 215.
ACSR — (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced)
Steel-core aluminum stranded cable ACSR conductors consist of several aluminum and galvanized steel conductors stranded in concentric layers.
The wires that make up the core are made of galvanized steel and the outer layer is made of aluminum.
Galvanized iron cores typically consist of 1, 7, or 19 wires.
The steel and aluminum wires can have the same or different diameters.
By varying the relative proportions of aluminum and steel, the properties required for any given application can be achieved.
Higher antistatic properties can be achieved by increasing the steel content and higher current carrying capacity by increasing the aluminum content.
ACSR cable has a wide range of applications and is suitable for transmission lines of all voltage levels.
It can also be laid in rivers, ravines, and places with special geographical features.
Conductor: The structure of ACSR is simple. It consists of a solid or stranded steel core surrounded by strands of aluminum.
Aluminum 1350-H-19 wires, concentrically stranded on a steel core. The core wire for ACSR is available with class A, B, or C galvanizing.
Standard: ASTM — B 230, ASTM — B 231, TS IEC 1089, DIN48201, BS 215.
1. The permissible long-time operating temperature for aerial conductor bundled cable is 70oC.
2. Under the circumstance that a rare climate is occurring and the ice coverage rate is low in heavy ice areas, the biggest stress of cable at the lowest point of the sag should not exceed 60% of the short-time destructive power.
3. When connecting conductors, the AAC conductor electronic cable beside the connecting tube cant be prominent. Otherwise, the force on the operating conductors will be unbalanced. After connectors are installed, the connecting tube should be painted with moisture-proof varnish in order to protect it from corrosion.
4. Under installation, the arc downing stress of all the conductors should be the same. Within the permissible distance of crossing buildings or dropping to the ground, the stress can be 10-15% higher than regular stress.
1. The hard overhead aluminum conductor used for AAC and ACSR conforms to the standard GB/T 17048-1997 (equivalent to IEC 60889:1987).
2. The zinc-coated steel wire used for ACSR conforms to IEC 60888:1987.
3. Electronic cable can be arranged according to customers' requirements for material standards, etc.
Construction of All Aluminum Conductor and Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced.
What is the difference between ACSR and AAAC conductors?
The main differences between AAC, AAAC, and ACSR conductors are in their construction and the materials used to make them.
AAC is made from electrolytically refined aluminum with a minimum purity of 7%. AAAC is made from aluminum alloy, while ACSR is made from a combination of aluminum and steel reinforcement.
Copper vs aluminum strength?
The tensile strength of copper is approximately 40% higher than that of aluminum.
Because of the higher tensile strength, copper wire is less likely to break than aluminum conductors.
This is important considering that wires are often installed by pulling through ports and feeders.
And aluminum has the characteristics of oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance.
Aluminum reacts quickly with oxygen in the air and generates an oxide film that prevents further oxidation.
Therefore, the aluminum conductor is the mandatory material for high voltage, large cross-section, and large span overhead transmission lines.
Here is where the advantages of aluminum conductors come into play.
