Asian Development Bank has approved $ 810 million long-term loan (2016-2026) for the construction of transmission and distribution system in Pakistan to help Pakistan improve the domestic power supply stability and reliability, further to meet the growing demand for electricity.
The Asian Development Bank Central Asia and West Asia expert Megan Wolf Ministry of Energy said that "stable and sustainable supply of electricity is the key to economic and social development in Pakistan."
According to reports, the loan will be used to Pakistan current transmission network expansion to improve transmission capacity, energy efficiency and energy security. In addition, it will also support the Government to establish a more transparent, efficient electricity market by means of energy reform.
Currently, the power shortage is a major obstacle to Pakistan's economic development, electricity demand, transmission and distribution systems is a major bottleneck behind Pakistan's energy development. Asian Development Bank hopes to gradually get rid of long-term loans to help Pakistan power shortages, promoting economic and social stability and development.
