Egypt Mohamed Shaker, electricity Minister said on Monday that Egypt-Saudi Arabia power grid interconnection project expected to advance completion in 2017.
In 2013, Egypt and Saudi Arabia signed the interconnection cooperation agreement, the total investment reached 6 billion riyals, which is designed to accelerate the achievement of bilateral electricity trades.
Mohamed Shaker said at a press conference on Monday, the interconnection project will help the two countries achieve power trading, especially in peak periods of electricity can supply each other, accelerating exports of surplus electricity.
In October, Egypt Parliament also passed the electricity interconnection project loan agreement by the Kuwait Fund for Arab economic development to provide 30 million Kuwait dinar loans.
According to Mohamed Shaker introduced, Saudi Arabia and Egypt power grid are two of the nation's largest Arab power grid. The interconnection of the two countries will be implemented by three substations, located in Egypt of Badr and Saudi Arabia of Madinah and Tabuk. The three substations via overhead cables connect cables and the bottom of the Gulf of Aqaba, in order to achieve interconnection of the two countries.
